On January 24, 1905, electric operation began on the 23.7 km long track into the Ammer Valley. It was the first journey of an electric train under a simple alternating current overhead line. It was the first line to be equipped with a new system, the "traction current" still in use in Central and Northern Europe today. The line was initially used with electric railcars, and later with small electric locomotives with speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour. The energy, in the form of single-phase alternating current, came from the Kammerl hydroelectric power station on the Ammer. From 1930, the beefy LAG 5 - later 169 005 - joined the fleet of electric locomotives on the Oberammergau Railway. Despite its length of only 8.7 m, the little powerhouse proved itself excellently. For decades, the railroad, with its coziness and idyllic surroundings of a Bavarian local railroad, exerted a special attraction on all railroad enthusiasts. The time of the "Neinasechzga" in local traffic on the Oberammergau Railway came to an end in May 1981. With the withdrawal of the old locomotives, regular operations took over and the charm of an incomparable era was irretrievably lost.
