Märklin 46661 Container transport car Laabs of the DB, AC, H0 gauge Novelty 2022

An extremely creative idea Volkswagen and Deutsche Bundesbahn came up with an extremely creative idea when they signed a contract in 1959 for rail transport of engines and transmissions between the individual Volkswagen production plants. The solution consisted of standardized containers that could be transported on short-coupled double units of converted Rm(r)so 31 type stake cars. They now had only flat superstructures with wooden floors on which the supporting frames for the containers were mounted. Each double unit could carry six containers, which were filled with either 36 engines or 96 gear units. In 1966, the container carrying cars for engine and transmission transports ran between Hanover and Wolfsburg, Emden and Ingolstadt as well as with the same destinations and later also to Brussels from Kassel-Baunatal. From 1970, Salzgitter, Neckarsulm, Stuttgart and Osnabrück (Karman) were added as further destinations.

Prototype: German Federal Railroad (DB) open freight car double unit Laabs for container transport (coupled Klms 440 ex Rmrso 31), leased to Volkswagen AG (VW). Version without hand brake, with container carrying frame and Volkswagen transport containers as load. Operating condition around 1971.

Model: The container transport car has sprinklers and different identification numbers. Loaded with a total of six Volkswagen transport containers with different container numbers. Total length over the buffers approx. 28.2 cm. E700580 DC wheel set. Trix Express wheel set E258259.
