Silver Arrow on rails Not all journeys are the same. If you are traveling on local transport, you simply want to get to your destination quickly. The situation is different for long-distance journeys. Especially if you are traveling on business. The railroads have always made offers to this affluent public. The TEE concept led the way here. But in the end, this also proved to be outdated, as the introduction of the 2nd carriage class had also increased train capacity utilization. So DB AG thought of a new product for a target group that wanted to travel comfortably between large cities. An independent company, "Metropolitan Express Train GmbH", was set up for this purpose. The new train impressed with its extremely luxurious ambience, which was designed to meet the most diverse needs of the customers. Mobile phone calls were strictly prohibited in the Silence area. However, there was also an office carriage in which the radio waves were even amplified. The completely newly developed carriages were extremely quiet, even at a cruising speed of 200 km/h. Instead of plastic cladding, they were dominated by dignified wooden fittings. Naturally, the high-quality leather seats and the fold-out or fixed wooden tables were adjustable. There was also a power socket at every seat. The wall paneling was made of Swiss pear wood.

The "Metropolitan" was launched with such luxury on August 1, 1999. The two train locomotives 101 130 and 131 were of course also designed in the new spirit. They also featured the new logo and the elegant silver-colored paint. Their maximum speed was raised to 220 km/h for the "Metropolitan". The two trains ran between Hamburg and Cologne. They clearly stood out from the monotony of Bahn AG. In every respect. Tickets could be booked online right from the start. Despite diligent efforts and a number of discount campaigns, however, it was not possible to bring the capacity utilization into the profit zone, which led to the end of the train in December 2004. Initially, the carriages were to be parked, but fortunately they changed their minds and were used on IC services, albeit no longer in their smart silver livery. The carriages were then taken out of service in December 2021. A remarkable chapter of German travel culture thus came to an end.

Buffer capacitors are included to bridge short power outages. Control car with mfx digital decoder.
