Indispensable components of every larger model railroad layout are amplifiers (also called "boosters"): If the power consumption of all running trains with their functions, the lighting of the cars and function models is greater than the maximum current that the command station can supply, you have to divide your layout into several supply sections, each supplied by its own booster. The ECoSBoost is designed for exactly this task: It is perfectly matched for use with our ESU ECoS. The ECoSBoost has an output current of 7A and comes with a suitably sized power supply.
Operating modes The ECoSBoost is connected directly to the ECoSlink socket of the command station and receives its control signals from there. It is able to amplify the data formats DCC with RailComPlus®, Motorola®, Selectrix® and M4 and to send them to the track.
Thanks to "Plug&Play", all ECoSBoost are automatically integrated into the list of external ECoSlink devices and can be monitored and configured centrally on the display of the ECoS.
Functions ECoSBoost amplifies the data signals coming from the digital command station and delivers them to the track output. 7 amperes of continuous output current are available. This is more than enough for about 18 H0 locomotives running simultaneously. The power supply of the ECoSBoost is taken over by the included switching power supply with stabilized DC output.
The configuration and monitoring of each ECoSBoost is done comfortably directly at the ECoS: For each amplifier you can individually set the maximum allowed output current. Furthermore, you can display the current consumption of each booster to find out how much "reserves" are still available. It is also very useful to be able to set separately for each ECoSBoost whether it should be switched off in case of a system short circuit or not: If you have connected your turnout decoders to a separate ECoSBoost, for example, the turnouts can still be switched reliably in case of a rail short circuit.
Feedback But an ECoSBoost can do more than just amplify and output the traction current: Each one has a feedback detector (global detector) for RailCom® built in as standard. On the one hand, this allows you to read CVs on the main track, on the other hand, you can automatically register new locomotives with RailComPlus® capable decoders directly on the booster section.
Additionally, the ECoSBoost masters the M4 feedback: All mfx® locomotives supplied by the ECoSBoost then behave exactly as when operated directly at the command station and can of course automatically register or transmit configuration changes.
Protection Every ECoSBoost meets the safety requirements and conditions for model railroad operation: The rail output is protected against overload as well as against short circuits.
The ECoSBoost is able to distinguish between a "real" short circuit and a momentary current short circuit when passing over points and disconnection points. In general, as with our locomotive decoders, great importance was attached to the indestructibility of the device.
Future built in The operating software of the microcontroller integrated in each ECoSBoost can be updated fully automatically by the ECoS command station, if required. You do not have to care about anything. This way, your ECoSBoost is always up to date with the latest technology.
