The Habersack -Few Swiss locomotives achieved such popularity that they were given a name. The very purpose-built tender locomotive Eb 3/5 was nicknamed "Habersack" after the knapsack with which the male Confederates were acquainted for a long time during military service. From 1911 to 1916, SLM built a total of 34 of these nearly 1,000 hp (735 kW) machines. The engines, which could travel at 75 km/h in both directions, were initially intended for passenger trains. However, after being equipped with an additional braking system, the locomotives with their 74 t service weight were also suitable for freight service, to which they were primarily assigned from the 1930s onward. With the widespread electrification of the Swiss rail network, the deployment plans for this beautifully shaped representative of Swiss steam railroad traffic dwindled. Between 1950 and 1965, the machines were gradually withdrawn or sold.
A freight car set to go with this locomotive can be found in the Märklin H0 assortment under item number 46568.
