Prototype: Class 08 heavy express steam locomotive, with a 2'2'T34-based coal dust tender. Version as an experimental locomotive with coal dust firing for the German State Railroad of the GDR (DR/DDR). Locomotive road number 08 1001. State of operation in the mid-1950s.

Model: The locomotive is completely new tooling constructed of metal. The frame, locomotive body with boiler, and engineer's cab are constructed of die-cast zinc. Other add-on parts mostly of metal (MS). Highly detailed model with many separately applied details and a highly detailed engineer's cab. Sand cover can be opened and smoke box door with central lock can also be opened. Movable cab doors, and much more. Comes with an mfx digital decoder with 32 functions, controlled high-efficiency propulsion, and a sound generator with wheel-synchronized running sound and extensive sound functions. Operation with AC, DC, Märklin Digital, and DCC possible. Built-in buffer capacitor. All driving axles powered. Built-in smoke generator with wheel-synchronous steam output, multi-stage cylinder steam, and steam whistle. Power unit lighting, three-light headlights with period-correct light coloring changing with the direction of travel. The headlights will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. Maintenance-free warm white LEDs are used for the lighting. Red tail light can be switched on/off. Cab and multi-color firebox lighting (flickering). Equipped with spring buffers, locomotive model equipped with a screw coupler in the front, and a remote-controlled Telex coupler in the rear (can be replaced with a screw coupler in the rear). Control switching (forward, reverse, continuous operation) in 3 steps. The model comes with an equipment package that includes a screw coupler, steam oil, and a locomotive engineer and stoker figure and gloves. Mounted on a black painted aluminum base for display case presentation. Minimum radius of travel 1,020 mm. Length over the buffers 83.8 cm. Weight approx. 8.2 kg.

Scope of delivery: 1x class 08 steam locomotive.

Large-scale operation: After the end of World War II, the Schadlokpark of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) of the GDR included a "foreign locomotive" of French origin with the SNCF number 241 A 21. As a development of the French Eastern Railway (EST), it came from a series of 40 machines built in 1931/32 and had a four-cylinder compound engine. Due to the high cost of maintenance, there were few efforts at the DR to put French-built locomotives back into service. However, the "Coal Dust Collective" around Hans Wendler and Max Baumberg, later head of the Fahrzeug- und Versuchs-Anstalt (FVA) in Halle (from 1960 VES-M Halle), was able to requisition this express locomotive for its needs because of its special design. With its 12.25 m³ combustion chamber and 2,248 mm combustion chamber, it was particularly suitable for conversion to pulverized coal firing, as it had a long burnout path for the dust particles, which was desirable for pulverized coal firing. 241 A 21 was therefore at Raw "7. Oktober" Zwickau from September 17, 1951, and was fitted with a Wendler pulverized coal firing system, reducing its boiler pressure from 20 to 16 kp/cm². The pulverized coal firing system required, among other things, the removal of the ash box and the installation of a second air pump and an additional main air receiver for pneumatic dust discharge. Furthermore, an adaptation to the operating conditions of the DR took place. This included the relocation of the driver's cab from the left to the right side of the locomotive and the extensive fitting of German standard fittings and parts. It was coupled with a 2'2'T28 three-chamber coal dust tender converted from a 2'2'T34 unit tender. The locomotive, now designated 08 1001 by the DR, initially arrived at the Berlin-Ostbahnhof depot after its completion in July 1952. Here it was to haul the express train pair D 13/14 to/from Stralsund at the start of the winter timetable on October 5, 1952. The records of locomotive engineer Specht at the Ostbahnhof depot show: On October 8, the engine arrived early from Leipzig and was harnessed in front of the D 13 to Stralsund without being restored. Despite "bad" coal dust, the steam development was good. Like the outward trip, the return trip also went smoothly. Another trip on October 10 also gave no cause for complaint and locomotive engineer Specht noted: "Best steam development. Bunker 2+3 were still filled to about 80 cm on arrival in Stralsund. "After transfer to the FVA Halle in February 1953, intensive test and measurement runs took place, which yielded many new findings. Subsequently, the 08 1001 went into scheduled service at Bw Dresden-Altstadt as a Christmas present, so to speak, on December 24, 1953. However, its maintenance-intensive de Glehn power unit, the multi-part crank axle and the general difficulties in procuring spare parts led to its withdrawal from service as early as June 18, 1955. It was not reconditioned and was finally withdrawn from service on November 15, 1957.
