The IV K, which were procured in 12 delivery series between 1892 and 1921, had two cylinder groups, each of which was combined with two axles to form a bogie. This engine arrangement ensured optimum cornering ability, and the large overall length meant that a long and therefore powerful long boiler could be installed. The locomotives were named after their designer, Alsatian Jean Jacques Meyer. The locomotives had to undergo several structural changes during their long service life. They were then thoroughly renovated in the 1960s, with some receiving new frames and boilers. When the DR numbering scheme was changed in 1970, 33 locomotives were still in service. Some operational vehicles are still in service today and enjoy great popularity.

Finished model of an old locomotive in an early design with partial wood paneling of the cab and cab roof superstructure. Model used in Eppendorf around 1955, but BW K. M. St. Hilbersdorf, sheet metal reinforcement on the front of the cab.
