As usual, a TGV Duplex also consists of two power cars and eight center cars connected by Jakobs bogies. The most striking change was the new design of the power cars with rounder shapes, a one-piece windshield, a centrally located driver's desk and improved impact protection. The aerodynamic design of the new power car nose and the improved transition between the cars now resulted in only a 4% increase in air resistance at a cruising speed of 300 km/h compared with a normal single-deck TGV. In order not to exceed the permissible wheelset load of 17.5 t, the center cars were largely built with extruded aluminum sections. Many other minor details such as weight-reduced seats, cables with thinner sheathing, hollow wheelset shafts and modified brake discs made a decisive contribution to compliance with the permissible gross weight. At the beginning of the new millennium, SNCF came to the conclusion that future TGVs from Alstom should only be equipped with IGBT-controlled three-phase asynchronous drive technology and only in double-deck design. In the summer, SNCF ordered a total of 55 sets of a third generation of double-deck TGVs as TGV-Euroduplex/2N2. The center cars underwent a major overhaul and now offered greater comfort, including a modern passenger information system, disabled access and wider aisles. These units (801-825, 4701-4730) are all equipped with three-system power cars (as on the TGV-POS). However, only units 4701-4730 are equipped with the ERTMS-2, LZB-PZB and Signum signaling systems for services to Germany and Switzerland. In the case of 25 other double-deck TGVs (units 801-825), the power cars were initially only fitted with the signaling equipment for French lines. They are primarily intended to replace the old PSE sets on high-volume lines. However, the power cars are already prepared for the installation of train protection systems for use in Germany and Switzerland if required. SNCF placed follow-up orders for the construction of 71 additional trains (units 826-896) from spring 2012, most of which have now been delivered and are to replace the aging TGV Atlantique.

Prototype: French State Railways (SNCF) TGV Euroduplex high-speed train (train à grande vitesse), in the version for service between Paris and Munich. 2 powered end cars (TK1 and TK2), 1 double-deck transfer car (R1) 1st class, 1 double-deck transfer car (R8) 2nd class. Powered rail car number 4709. Era VI operating condition.

Model: The car comes with a 4-part basic set. Both powered end cars (TK1 and TK2) are motorized. The locomotive has an mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. The locomotive has controlled high-efficiency propulsion in both powered end cars, centrally mounted. 4 axles each driven by cardan shafts. Traction tires. Interior lighting installed as standard. The triple headlights change over with the direction of travel. 2 red marker lights and the interior lighting will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. Third headlight for French light changes can be turned off separately digitally (light function). Maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. The engineer's cabs in the powered end cars have interior details. Separately applied metal grab irons. The powered end car and the transfer car are permanently coupled together in pairs with special close couplers and guide mechanisms. Additional guide mechanism in the Jakobs bogie. The power supply depends on the direction of travel and is connected to the front end of the powered end car. Interior lighting is supplied via the continuous electrical connection of the entire train. Each power car has 2 single-arm pantographs in different designs, each with a rocker arm for DB and SNCF. Pantographs are only mechanically functional, not electrically functional. The locomotive is a scale replica, so it can be used on track curves with a minimum radius of 360 mm and a clear headroom. Length of the 4-part basic set 102 cm.

Highlights:

  • Molded version in the TGV Euroduplex design for the Paris - Munich route.
  • 1:87 scale reproduction
  • LED interior lighting installed as standard
  • Extensive sound functions. Both power cars motorized.

This powered rail car train can be found in a DC version in the Trix H0 assortment under item number 22381.
