Information about the prototype: In 1941, the Heidelberg company Waggonfabrik Fuchs delivered the first 6-axle gas tank cars to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. With a length over buffers of 14.6 m and a tank volume of 42.5 m³, these vehicles were a good deal larger than the tank wagons for acids built in the same design. The wagons for the transportation of gases were required for the transportation of butane and propane. In West Germany, the wagons were supplied by the Deutsche Reichsbahn to the private wagon hire company VTG, among others. In the East, the wagons were hired directly by the Deutsche Reichsbahn. To prevent the gas loaded in the tanks from heating up excessively and expanding due to sunlight, thereby increasing the pressure in the tank, some of the wagons were fitted with a sun canopy. For Reichsbahn Ost wagons, the conversion of the boiler ladder is documented. This could no longer be done from the sides, but only from the handbrake platform.
