The Traxx AC3 is the first variant of the third generation of Bombardier Traxx locomotives and is known in Germany as the 187 series. The machines have a modified head shape compared to their predecessors. In addition, the machines were prepared for the installation of an ETCS train control system at the factory for the first time. As a further innovation, the locomotives were equipped with a so-called last mile module, which allowed the locomotives to run on non-electrified sections of track and sidings. The model of the Class 187 in the Captrain version perfectly reproduces the proportions of the prototype and takes into account the special features of the prototype locomotive. As with the original, the side walls of the locomotive are not smooth but vertically corrugated. The roof area has a tidy roof garden, fine insulators and delicate metal pantographs. The sharply engraved bogies with numerous separately applied parts are also a particular eye-catcher. The models equipped with a decoder have digitally switchable lighting in the driver's cabs and instrument panels, which perfectly sets off the detailed interior design. The functions can also be retrofitted to analog models in no time at all using the PluX22 digital interface.
