The V 100 series was developed for passenger and freight train service and as a variant for use in shunting service for the DR. The maximum speed was 100 km/h with an output of 1,000 HP. As a result, it quickly became the "girl for everything" and closed the gap between the weaker V 60 series and the more powerful V 180 series.
