Märklin 88808 DB class 218 446-3 diesel locomotive, Z gauge Novelty 2024

Prototype: German Railroad (DB AG) diesel-hydraulic locomotive 218 446-3 with a Bo'Bo' wheel arrangement. Era VI operating condition in the ocean blue/ivory paint scheme.

Model: The locomotive has an extensive prototypical paint scheme for Era VI and a bell-shaped armature motor. With prototypically enlarged buffer plates. Both trucks with all axles powered. 3-light headlights with warm white/red LEDs that change over with the direction of travel. Dark nickel-plated wheel rims. Length over buffers 75 mm.

It is hard to imagine today's train service (local and long-distance service) without the class 218. On the routes to Fehmarn and Sylt in the north and in the south on the ICs to Oberstdorf (hauled by engines from the Kempten depot). Until December 2021, 218s from the Ulm depot could still be found in front of services (IC 118/119) on what was until recently the last all-diesel main line, the Swabian Southern Railway from Ulm to Lake Constance.
